Speed Caravan - Kalashnik Love + DJ UMB
Wednesday 7th October 2009 doors 7.30pm
Dingwalls, Camden Lock

The Chemical Brothers, The Cure, Rachid Taha… Egyptian weddings, Algerian Rai, Turkish Çiftetelli, Yemenite psychedelia… in a Rock n’ Roll mix.

Led by Mehdi Haddab (DuOuD) on electric oud, and featuring Hermione Frank (Ekova), Rocky Singh (Asian Dub Foundation) and Pascal ‘Pasco’ Teillet, Speed Caravan is a mind-blowing experience of radical oriental sounds driven against the hardest dance beats and grooves, creating music that references The Cure and The Chemical Brothers alongside Algerian rai and other Arabic influences in a glorious collision of global sounds and styles. To call Mehdi Haddab the Jimi Hendrix of the electric oud would, of course, be a hopeless cliché. But it's not that far from the truth… After several years of touring, Speed Caravan come to London to present their high-energy, exciting and exotic live show. Get ready to rock the Kasbah!

Kalashnik Love is out now on Real World Records, featuring Rachid Taha, Richard Archer (Hard-Fi), Sidestepper, MC Spex and many others.

+ from 7.30pm DJ UMB (Generation Bass) bass-heavy Global Ghettotech and Orientronica www.myspace.com/djumb
